Welcome to the Center for European Renewal.
The Center for European Renewal is an independent, non-profit, non-partisan, educational and cultural organisation dedicated to promoting and protecting the Western ideal of a civilised, humane, and free society. We wish to renew the spirit of Europe.
On this website you can learn more about our mission, the principles that guide us, the network of European partners who work with us, upcoming and recent events, and ways in which you can support our ongoing work. You can also sign up to regularly receive an electronic version of our bi-annual magazine, The European Conservative.
Summer 2014 Edition of The European Conservative
This new edition -- commemorating the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria and his wife Sophie, and the start of the First World War -- includes a 'Guest Commentary' by Eduard Habsburg, communications manager for the Habsburg family in Austria. Additional reflections on 'a century of terror' are offered by former Thatcher adviser Robin Harris and British diplomat Robert Cooper.
Other articles include French and Hungarian reflections on the recent European Parliament elections; a consideration of EU threats to parental rights by Roger Kiska of Alliance Defending Freedom; a philosophical consideration of the 'politics of nostalgia' by Edmund Waldstein, a Cistercian at Stift Heiligenkreuz; a tribute to the Italian man of letters, Eugenio Corti, by Thomas Fleming; and newly edited versions of essays by Roger Scruton, Filip Mazurczak, Grover Norquist, and Lorenzo Montanari.
