“What’s Left of Our Culture? Surveying the Ruins and Preparing for Renewal.”
Held Friday May 8th – Sunday May 10th, 2009 at Budapest, Hungary
The theme for the fourth meeting was: What’s Left of Our Culture? Surveying the Ruins and Preparing
for Renewal. The principles, ideals, and traditions that underpin Western Civilization have been
subjected to sustained attacks: in Eastern Europe, by the brutal oppression of communism, and
in Western Europe by the ‘soft’ spread of progressive liberalism. This meeting will present a great
opportunity for conservatives from across Europe to survey the ruins, and prepare for renewal.

The meeting was organized by the Hungarian members of the CER with the generous help
of the XXI Century Institute and the Foundation of its House of Terror Museum—an
independent organization running the only museum worldwide that presents the terror of both
fascist and communist governments in Hungary. The Foundation kindly offered the use of
one of its buildings for the meeting.
